Branding + Communications (case study)

Updated: Aug 16, 2023

In 2020 (and continuing through 2021), Girl on the Roof was contracted by the White House Initiative on Historically Black Colleges and Universities (within the United States Department of Education) to assist with branding and promoting their innovative, cross-functional efforts. Girl on the Roof was tasked with the following:

  • Development of a distinct look and feel for the initiative, including style guide with color palette, fonts, infographic treatment, and more

  • Custom design and layout of the 130-page, ADA-compliant Federal HBCU Competitiveness Strategy document, which contained content from every major department in the federal government. Despite its length, the document was attractive, engaging, and easy to navigate.

  • The custom design and layout of the 20-page ADA-compliant Contributions Brief following the same style guide as the above-listed document

  • Concepting, design, and output of a full logo package for the WHIHBCU workgroup and each of eight different cluster areas; this included accompanying icons and usage standards

  • PowerPoint template development for the WHIHBCU office and each of its eight cluster areas

"When I led the White House Initiative on Historically Black Colleges and Universities, I wanted to nationally brand some of our groundbreaking efforts. Carol and the GotR team were simply exceptional. They engaged us in a thoughtful process to capture precisely what I wanted. GotR also demonstrated reasonableness and agility when unexpected complications arose. Without reservation or hesitation, I recommend GotR." – Johnathan Holifield, former Executive Director of the White House Initiative on HBCU
