About Girl on the Roof

Our Name
People ask us all the time: "What's with the name Girl on the Roof?" At Girl on the Roof, we help we help amplify messages that need to be heard. Our clients include nonprofits, government agencies, and socially and environmentally responsible businesses — organizations that value purpose and principle over profit. To honor their commitment and maximize their resources, we start by crafting a message worth shouting from rooftops (hence the name). Then we wrap a strategy and plan around that message to get attention and results from the audiences our clients want to reach.
Our History
Girl on the Roof was founded in Knoxville, Tennessee in 2009 and relocated to Winston-Salem, North Carolina in 2017. We have been true to our purpose from Day 1, applying our world-class strategy, marketing, and design experience to organizations striving to do good.
Our Advantage

Our Operating Principles
We add value through ideas, not just through execution. We are a strategic marketing firm, not solely a design shop or advertising agency. To ensure the best results, we start with the objectives and audiences; then we develop the strategy and the message; then we execute.
We are transparent, honest, and accountable. We ask smart questions, listen well, and provide wise counsel based on decades of proven experience.
We do work that matters. Regardless of size or sector, we serve organizations that serve others. This isn't just a job for us. It's a calling.
We are efficient and responsive. Girl on the Roof is deliberately lean and intentionally staffed. Clients tell us they appreciate that the experienced professionals they communicate with regularly are the ones doing the work. This saves time and money while ensuring a more strategic end product. This may sound intuitive, but it’s not how most agencies work. (Compare our process to theirs.)
