Our Calling
Girl on the Roof has been purpose-driven and faith-based since our founding in 2009. We have even been recognized by the Princeton Theological Seminary for our innovative approach to faith in business. (Be sure to check out our innovative LOUDMOUTH program.)
We believe fervently in the freedom to choose one's own faith orientation (or no faith at all). To us, though, faith means following the teachings of Jesus, who taught us to love our neighbors, clothe the poor, shelter the homeless, and defend the oppressed. We believe these are messages worth SHOUTING FROM ROOFTOPS.
Faith is at the core of our ethos, but it isn't a requirement for our clients. We choose first and foremost to serve organizations that better our communities, our environment, and the world around us, regardless of their faith preference. We advocate for equality, diversity, and inclusion in all forms (including in the area of faith), and we engage actively in dialog and seek innovative ideas to help address systemic issues that threaten these core principles.
This card (front and back) was created by Princeton Theological Seminary as part of a project showcasing imaginative, "faith-friendly" organizations from which others can learn. The cards are used in educational settings.
WORDS TO LIVE AND WORK BY
Our Creed
Girl on the Roof team members give time, talent, and treasure to our communities and to the organizations that strengthen them. We do this because we ascribe to a shared belief and hope we call the Roofer's Creed.
We believe that God has put on this earth at this time all of the resources required to restore shalom (the way God intended for things to be). There is no waste in God's economy. Our talents, gifts, experiences, and resources are not for our benefit. They have been given to us with purpose and expectation, that through collaboration in the context of community, we may combine them with the talents, gifts, experiences, and resources of others for the common good and the restoration of all things.
With this belief in mind, we espouse The Roofer's Creed. We didn't create this on our own. This verbiage comes directly from the scripture verses referenced.
THE ROOER'S CREED
May the God of peace equip us with everything good for doing God's will, and may God work in us what is pleasing to God. For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. We will not withhold good from those who deserve it when it's in our power to help them. We will judge fairly, defend the rights of those in need, and speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves. Whatever we do in word and deed, we aim to do it all in the name of the Lord, giving thanks through Him to God the Father. We commit our way to the Lord and trust in Him, that He will make the justice of our cause shine like noonday sun.
